Retired and Senior Volunteer Program

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) enriches the lives of senior adults through significant community volunteer service and personal development. RSVP encourages seniors to volunteer their talents, experiences, skills, and hobbies to community not-for-profit agencies for the betterment of those agencies and the community as a whole.

Benefits of volunteering with RSVP

  • Three types of free supplemental insurance while you volunteer: personal injury, personal liability, excess automobile.
  • Limited transportation assistance if needed.
  • Annual recognition events.
  • Social interaction and a chance to meet new people.
  • An opportunity to learn new skills.
  • Bi-monthly newsletter.
  • Referral information.
  • Changes in your volunteer assignment whenever you want.

Determining your volunteer hours
Here is a quick primer concerning the hours that can be counted as volunteer work. Any time a volunteer works at an approved Volunteer Station (for example Nifty Thrifty), the work station reports those hours at the end of the month. If you have concerns that the work station is not reporting the hours, please contact the volunteer director at the work station or the RSVP office. When the RSVP office calls and asks you to do a volunteer assignment, those assignment hours need to be recorded on a time sheet and turned in by the 10th day of the following month. If you do other community service work these hours also need to be included on your monthly time sheet. Please be sure to return all time sheets and mileage reimbursement forms by the 10th day of the following month. Activities done for relatives may not be counted toward volunteer hours. If you have any questions about how to complete the time sheets or what activities can be included, please contact the RSVP office.
